When the mighty German Tiger 1 entered service in the autumn of 1942, it was the most advanced tank in the world, designed specifically to dominate the battlefield. Capable of destroying anything the Allies had on duty, it had a ranged advantage that allowed it to kill without being damaged before the enemy tank crews could think about defense.
The Tiger's potential was never fully exploited because it was too technically advanced, extremely complex, and expensive to produce, which meant that there were never enough Tigers on the battlefield.
Only 1347 Tiger 1 tanks were produced between 1942 and 1944, and while it was undoubtedly one of the best tanks ever produced, it could not stop the ever-increasing Allied armament. To illustrate the disparities, it is enough to mention that American factories were able to produce more than 49,000 Sherman tanks during World War II.
