Considered revolutionary in 1935, at the start of World War II, the earliest versions of the Hurricane with fabric-covered wings and two blade propellers were no match for the performance of the best German fighters. Nevertheless, once equipped with 3-bladed propellers, these early Hurricanes were very successful during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
