After the completion of the palaces in Évora and Sintra, the ruler of Portugal, Manuel I, wished to erect a Summer Pavilion in honor of the most distinguished members of the royal family. The task was entrusted to the most talented craftsmen, whose skills were to lend the building a prestige worthy of the king himself. Unfortunately, Manuel I died before construction could even begin.
The board game Azul: Summer Pavilion transports us to 16th-century Portugal, where we take on a task that in reality never started. As master craftsmen, we will strive to raise the Summer Pavilion from the best available materials, selecting tiles in the appropriate colors and creating from them fragments of stars. For correctly arranging patterns in relation to special fields, we will earn additional bonuses and valuable points that will bring us closer to the master title.
How does it work?
In each round, participants choose tiles from those available in the suppliers' workshops and then arrange them in their storage areas. The layout of the tiles is completely random, making every game play out entirely differently. In each round, one of the 6 colors will be the trump color. Tiles of this type will be particularly important, as they can be used as substitutes for other colors.
Once everyone has chosen their tiles, players will take turns adding tiles to their pavilion board. The more they place next to each other, the more points they will score. Additional bonuses will also be given for surrounding special fields in a specific way.
The game ends after 6 rounds, and before the final, additional bonuses are awarded. The player who collects the most points wins.
